Born in the Los Angeles, Ms. De La Torre was inspired by the wonder and opportunity that all of California has to offer. Curious as a child, her greatest inspiration was that of her creative mother, frequently visiting art museums and historic landmarks. Though her work is narrative, her paintings also echo children’s illustrations from a post-war era. Crystal’s work is nostalgic and evokes distant memories of childhood with a veil of fantasy. Some of her favorite Artist’s include Marlene Dumas, Kim Dingle, Cindy Sherman and Mark Ryden.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007 from California State University, Fullerton and her Master of Fine Arts in 2011 from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco.
